The Evergreen Center Provides a School and a Community for Students

Dr. Robert F. Littleton Jr. has devoted much of his life to assisting children and adults with special needs. Dr. Robert Littleton is the founder, president, and treasurer of four Massachusetts-based corporations that serve that goal. The Evergreen Center was Dr. Robert F. Littleton Jr.’s first such organization.

Founded in 1982, the nonprofit Evergreen Center is a residential school that also provides community housing for children and adolescents who have autism and severe developmental disabilities. Evergreen was established to integrate students’ educational and living environments with the goal of helping them develop to their maximum potential. The school is located in Milford, Massachusetts, and surrounded by student residential options in Milford and its neighboring communities.

The Evergreen Center is open to students from ages six to 22 who have autism, developmental disabilities, significant intellectual impairments, or physical handicaps. Students are provided transportation from their group housing to and from the school. In addition to learning under an individualized education program, students may participate in supervised activities around the community such as grocery shopping, eating out, going to the movies, attending church, or working at a part-time job. Students are also taught routine life skills in their homes to help increase their independence including daily hygiene, food preparation, and housekeeping.
